Last week was rough.

Being a small business owner today is tough, especially in a changing industry like fitness.

Covid brought things like the mirror, peloton, and tonal to the forefront on the industry.

Many people invested time and money in a home gym.

And the there is the introduction of virtual training allowing folks to stay home and still train with their favorite trainers.

All of this led to many gyms and studios having to shut down for good.

I, we, was able to withstand those and continue to have fun with weights.

But that doesn’t mean I’m immune to the troubles other business owners face.

Having a growing family adds another element to the equation.

Trying to navigate training classes, trying to grow the business, understanding the need to be expanding into the online forum, meeting the day to day demands of clients and prospects, expanding my network to increase leads, keeping the studio clean, installing and assembling new equipment, and trying to still be a husband to my pregnant wife and a dad to my growing boy, along with the financial stresses of a still growing business, I was at wits end.

Having an incredibly strong, intelligent, empathetic wife is a godsend.

Having conversations about finances and other complicated issues is never easy.

But they are worth it in the end.

We all struggle with things.

As a fitness coach and trainer, I see it daily.

Whether its struggling with soreness or an injury;

battling back and forth with your weight;

Or having a difficult time cutting down your alcohol intake to stop sabotaging your weight loss;

We’re all struggling.

So how did I deal with it?

Simple, we avoided it.

No just f’ing around.

We talked about it.

We brought up different scenarios.

I spoke with my coaches on the business side of things.

And then I broke things down to the lowest common denominator. ( grade school coming in handy for once.)

I got down to what needs to be done on a daily basis to move the needle.

And I got to that point by reverse engineering, or simply working backwards from where I want to be, and then breaking down every step of the way to get down to those things that must be done daily.

But I didn’t do it alone.

I did it with the help of my wife and my coaches.

Thats right I said coaches. I have 3 that I work with, or have worked with, to help me.

And that’s where most get it wrong; they try to go it alone.

That is a surefire way to failure and disappointment every time.

That’s even if you get to the point of failing.

When I try and go at it alone it mostly leads to inaction and overthinking.

So both my wife and coaches advised on just taking action.

Messy action.

That’s where I am at currently.

Taking account of the things I need to do daily to move the needle in the direction of my goals and dreams.

The only opposite of action is inaction.

One gets you closer to your goals, the other closer to obscurity and disappointment.

Move toward the problem.

Take action.

It is always better than standing still.

What are you struggling with right now?

Is there something difficult you’re facing right now?

Reply, comment or DM your struggles. We are all in this together.

Peace, love & fitness,
Matty C.
